Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Rail Vehicle Mechanical Engineer intern to join our North American Infrastructure group in our Vehicle Mechanical Engineering group in our Ambler, PA office.

In this role, the ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer student with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must have knowledge of core basic mechanical engineering concepts. Some experience working in the rail industry is a bonus.

As the successful candidate, you will:

Provide engineering support to the Vehicle and Operation’s Group as required
Participate in inspections of rail vehicle and infrastructure maintenance activities
Assist in the review design submittals, and the preparation of detailed descriptions of review findings
Participate in technical working sessions to address issues raised by clients
Inspect and review prototype and first article equipment and prepare detailed descriptions of review findings
Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits under the direction of senior staff
Prepare technical briefs, presentations and reports that identify work progress, defects/non-conformances, and areas of concern
Assist with the conduct forensic investigation of failed components and equipment and reporting findings under the direction of senior staff
Develop technical specifications for mechanical equipment

Requirements: Candidates must be a rising Junior or Senior able to work through the Summer of 2024. Academic minimum qualifications include study in mechanical engineering with highly developed analytical skills. Candidates must be willing and able to solve unique problems through self-motivated learning and research. The individual we are seeking must be a motivated intern with excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently. This is an excellent opportunity for students seeking industry experience within the field of rail transit systems, or mechanical engineering. The selected candidate will receive orientation and relevant training.

The following skills/experience are a plus:

Experience with Autodesk and AutoCAD software
Basic programming skills
Experience of Finite Element (ANSYS or Equivalent) Software
Previous internship experience
