Summary
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the Logistics Execution Plan at the start of the Project Execution phase. The Logistics Coordinator must have thorough knowledge of planning, multimodal methods, routes, transport schedules, and how the rates are built up for the movement of equipment, materials, and parts to ensure that all project materials/supply items are delivered to site in accordance with project requirements.
The Logistics Coordinator should have a clear understanding of the customs and phytosanitary regulations and requirements. HS (Harmonized System) tariff process, procedures, lead times, and company policies or preference to ensure cost-effective and timely movement of materials and supplies.
The Logistics Coordinator must be knowledgeable about auditing freight bills, bills of lading, and filing for claims. He must have a superior level of understanding about way a given Incoterms
strategy has been selected for use on the project. The Logistics Coordinator should be intimately familiar with the trends and obtaining of ocean freight rates, terminal charges, import/export regulations, licensing requirements, export packing, freight-forwarding services, local logistics resources and practices, phytosanitary requirements and customs clearance procedures.
The Logistics Coordinator should possess an expert ability to develop and coordinate long range shipping scenarios with established or planned construction schedules and requires innovative solution-based thinking and a “out of the box” approach in order to provide the project with the optimal solution. Where possible, they should leverage the use of consolidated shipping routes
which can provide significant cost and time savings.
