The Opportunity

Council's Assets and Capital department has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Infrastructure Design Engineer to join our Major and Strategic Projects delivery team as a Major Civil Projects Engineer. As a new member of the team, you will be involved in the design and delivery of the Council's Major Public Realm Projects. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, this position will carry out engineering investigations, surveys, detailed designs & estimates, tenders specification preparations and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver the design and construction of Joseph Road Precinct Public Realm project, Cowper Street Capital Improvement Project and other Strategic Infrastructure Projects as directed by Senior Project Manager
• Carry out investigations, surveys, consultation, detailed civil design plans and cost estimates associated with Council's Capital Works Program either directly or utilising external consultants
• Liaise with State Government, DoT, the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources (DEDJTR), Bicycle Network Victoria, Public Transport Victoria, Residents and Trader Groups, Greater Western Water and other statutory authorities and organisations in relation to the design and delivery of the Public Realm Projects
• Liaise with consultants to jointly prepare concept plans and detailed design plans using computer aided design packages such as CivilCAD and AutoCAD Civil Design 3D-Civil Site Design, for road, drainage, LATM, WSUD & Active Transport projects

About You

• A Degree in Civil Engineering sufficient for membership of Engineers Australia
• Experience in the civil design engineering and high level of competency in computer aided civil design software (e.g. Civil 3D and Civil Site Design) used in the design of roads, drainage and Local Area Traffic Management projects
• Strong technical skills with regards to civil design engineering theory, interpretation of geo technical reports, design guidelines, traffic management plans, legislations and issues related to the function of the position
• Experience in the project management of civil design projects and preparation of construction cost estimates, tender specifications and documentations
• Demonstrated experience in dealing with multiple stakeholders including State Government representatives, Service providers, design consultants, developers and contractors by conducting consultation meetings, preparing presentations and providing timely and accurate advice
• Ability to exercise sound judgement in anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems relating to a variety of engineering issues
• High level written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence and information, in a variety of formats
• Ability to make decisions, manage time, set priorities, plan and organise work to complete assigned tasks
• Current Victorian Driver's License
