Hatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated Principal Project Engineer – Vehicles & Operations to join the Transit group in Calgary, A.B.

The Principal Project Manager - Vehicles & Operations will lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers and technicians in the delivery of high-quality solutions and deliverables for our clients while adhering to technical requirements, schedule and commercial objectives. Project workload will be focused primarily on bus transit and rail transit and will include Light Rail Vehicles, a wide range of buses (including electric buses), maintenance vehicles, maintenance facilities, stations/stops and operational control centres.

This role requires experience related to design, procurement and commissioning of Light Rail Vehicles and/or buses as well as demonstrated leadership with regards to operations and maintenance of mass transit systems. A high emotional quotient, objective thinking, problem solving skills and empathetic leadership characteristics are required to succeed in this role. The most suitable candidate will have a background in the design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance of transit systems and will demonstrate experience in multidisciplinary design coordination. With exponential growth in the Transit Business Unit within Hatch, this is an exciting opportunity for an applicant looking to progress their career.

 As the successful candidate, you will:

• Maintain technical prominence within the industry as it relates to transit vehicles (Light Rail Vehicles and buses), transit operations and maintenance and within Hatch.
• Developing knowledge of different areas of transit vehicles and operations though on the job learning, industry trends, courses and self-guided study.
• Leading multi-disciplinary teams to ensure project objectives are met.
• Managing, coordinating and interfacing with project team members including clients, designers, technical specialists, subconsultants and other project stakeholders.
• Active participation in internal project team meetings to understand project requirements, schedule, deliverables, technical issues, etc.
• Ensure that design deliverables meet client requirements.
• Other general duties as required for successful and timely project execution.

You bring to the role:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field) and 20+ years of related work experience.
• Eligible for registration, with Canadian provincial engineering regulatory bodies as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
• Preference will be given for candidates with demonstrated experience/knowledge in transit vehicles and operations.
• Must be self-motivated able to work independently.
• Must have excellent communication skills and interpersonal soft skills.
• Must have good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Must demonstrate the agility to quickly shift focus between tasks in order to deliver on multiple project priorities.
• Experience working for a major transit/transportation agency (directly or indirectly) is an asset.
