Hatch is currently accepting applications for an Intermediate Piping Designer/Drafter, working in our Calgary Office.  If you have strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and understand innovation, we want to hear from you! Working closely with our senior engineers and designers, your primary role will be to act as a technical resource on challenging projects. 

What you'll do:
•    Independently apply design principles for 3D models and 2D mechanical equipment, piping layout or general arrangement and Isometric drawings of industrial buildings and processes
•    Assist in the training and coaching of less experienced designers in using CADWorx and OpenPlant;
•    Prepare equipment layouts and 3D piping designs;
•    Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models
•    Prepare material lists, line lists and project drawing lists as required; and
•    Participate in the vendor drawing review process. 
•    Participate in office and site safety training and inductions as needed to support office and site activities
•    Willingness and ability to travel and work in other Hatch offices or project work sites (including remote sites) as needs and opportunities arise

What you'll bring
•    Engineering design and drafting technology diploma or related technical diploma or certificate; 
•    Minimum of 5 years of relevant design/drafting experience;
•    Experience in an EPC environment would be an asset; 
•    Proficiency in  AutoCAD, CADWorx, Microstation and OpenPlant;
•    Working knowledge of discipline specific skills, codes and standard practices; 
•    Ability to use independent judgment in planning and selecting appropriate techniques and procedures to complete assignments; 
•    Strong attention to detail, able to self-check and produce accurate designs; 
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment;
•    Decision making and problem-solving ability; 
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with other designers, drafters, technicians, and engineers who assist in specific assignments; and
•    Safety certificates such as WHMIS, Standard First Aid and H2S Alive would be an asset and may be required depending upon project.

Preferred:
•    Experience with Bentley MicroStation, OpenPlant P&ID/Modeler/Isometrics Manager 
•    Good understanding of design principles related to mechanical and/or piping systems
•    Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges
•    Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges
•    Adapts and embraces change.
